9 Reasons for Renting a Disney Vacation Club
Are you thinking of joining the Disney Vacation Club? Are you vacationing at Walt Disney World with a large group? Would you like to stay at a deluxe resort without spending deluxe pricing? Let’s talk about the pros of renting a Disney Vacation Club.
If any of these situations sound familiar you should consider renting Disney Vacation Club points. Whether you want to become a member or just want some extra amenities without the price tag, renting points is a great option.
Save Money
The #1 reason to rent Disney Vacation Club points is that it will save you money. You pay essentially moderate resort prices to stay at deluxe level resorts. This is clearly one of the most intriguing reasons to rent a DVC vacation.
The price varies per night depending on a few factors. You’ll pay $16 a credit (typically) for any resort you stay. The number of points needed per night is what will decide how much your overall cost will be. There are a few factors that will sway the number of points needed. The time of year, the type of room, the view from the room, and the resort itself.
It is important to note that this will not be as inexpensive as staying at a value resort or even a few of the off-property resorts. However, your money does go further with all of the extra perks you get. Some of which are listed below!
Better Location Near Theme Parks
Speaking of extra perks, location, location, location! One of the biggest draws of Deluxe resorts is their locations. You are closer to the theme parks and the action so you spend less time traveling.
Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and the Contemporary, which is where Bay Lake Tower is located, are on the monorail loop to the Magic Kingdom. Wilderness Lodge which has Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas is a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom.
Boardwalk Villas and Beach Club are walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, or a boat ride away if you prefer. This makes them ideal spots to aim for during any of Epcot’s festivals.
While it is not a theme park, Disney Springs is a great area of Walt Disney World. Saratoga Springs is located right next to it. In fact, if you are staying at Congress Park in Saratoga Springs, you can walk to and from Disney Springs as you like!
Being able to get to and from the theme parks and attractions quicker save your family time, and sometimes headaches, of the travel time in between parks and resorts.
Test out Disney Vacation Club
As you walk around Walt Disney World you will notice locations throughout the theme parks advertising Disney Vacation Club (DVC). There is always someone there for you to chat with and learn more about how you can relive the magic for years to come.
Whether or not becoming a DVC member is right for you is an entirely different discussion. However, if you are a family who typically stays at value or moderate level resorts, renting points at a DVC resort is a great way to test out if it is worth the investment.
We recently did a split stay vacation between value, moderate, and deluxe resort and you can absolutely tell the difference between the accommodations. Renting points allows you to stay at a deluxe resort without the large price tag, but it also allows you to stay in a vacation property.
These rooms are different from the typical standard hotel rooms. It allows you to see if all of the extra amenities that come with it would benefit your future Disney vacations. Think of it as a trial run for becoming a DVC member. Plus, this allows you to visit different resorts and see which home resort you would prefer!
Larger Accommodations
One of the great things about DVC rooms is that even the studio size rooms are larger than most typical Disney hotel rooms. Of course, this varies by hotel, but more often than not, your DVC studio will be larger than your regular resort hotel room.
A room at an All-Star Resort will be 260 sq ft. Your average DVC studio room will be 340 sq feet or more.
It is extremely important to note that besides Old Key West, all DVC studio rooms only contain one queen-size bed. However, they do all have a double-size sleeper sofa. This can be a deal breaker for some families depending on the age of your children.
Ability to Prepare Meals
You can “prepare” meals in a standard hotel room, but the only amenity you will have is a fridge. DVC studio rooms will also only come with a fridge, toaster and a microwave. You will also get some basic items like eating utensils, a corkscrew, etc. There is an extra sink as well.
Any room that is a one bedroom or large will come with a full kitchen. This means you have the ability to cook and prepare food in your room. DVC is set up to be a home away from home. The ability to make your own meals is a big deal for a lot of families because it means they do not have to eat out as frequently and can save money by making their own food.
You get a much larger kitchen with a full fridge, oven and stove, dishwasher, cooking utensils, pots and pans, and more. Everything you need to make a homecooked meal.
No Hidden Fees
Nothing is more disappointing than thinking you have found a great deal on a website only for fees to pop-up when you are about to check out. Various resorts add a resort fee, others have multiple taxes that get added which cause the price to jump up quite a bit.
Renting for David’s you know the price you will pay before you book. No hidden fees, no extra cost. This helps you decide right away if it is a good deal or a bad deal. No more worrying if you are missing anything, they are incredibly upfront about the cost.
Perfect for Large Groups
Large families or groups will love renting DVC rooms. It allows you to all stay in one area with a living room, kitchen, and other amenities depending on what resort you are at. You can absolutely stay at a suite or larger room by booking through Disney. However, as we discussed before, this will cost you much more than if you were to rent a DVC resort.
Every resort has different layouts that change depending on the type of room you select. While most studio rooms are fairly similar, the larger rooms vary quite a bit.
David’s has layouts and virtual tours that allow you to get the best idea of how much room you would have on your vacation.
You Pay Per Room, Not Per Person
One other thing I love about renting DVC rooms is similar to the no hidden fees. If you book a Disney room for more than 2 people you will pay for each additional person. The price tends to vary depending on the age and time of year, but you will still have to pay.
When you rent a DVC room you pay for the room, not per person. Whether it is just one person, four people, 10 people, or more, you can reach the maximum occupancy and it will still be the same cost.
Free Parking
My final favorite thing is free parking. We do not typically drive on our vacations because we do not need too. But also, we never rent a car because while it can be more convenient for trips, I have a hard time justifying paying to park at a Disney resort.
Not too long ago it was free to park at a Disney resort, but now this is no longer. The cost per night varies depending on the level of resort you are at. However, if you are a DVC member or renting DVC points, you get to park for free. Depending on how long you are staying those savings add up quickly. Especially when you consider parking overnight at a deluxe resort is the most expensive.
