Magic Kingdom Fastpass Guide

Deciding what Fastpasses to get can be one of the more difficult decisions while planning a Walt Disney World vacation. There are absolutely rides that should take priority over others. There are rides that are going to have a line every day from the second the park opens until when it is closed. It is important to know which ones you should focus on.

Don’t forget to check out the fastpass guides for the other parks:

Which Fastpasses should I get at Magic Kingdom?

There are quite a few attractions that are always a good idea. If you can select three of these top choices, that is ideal.

    1. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
    2. Peter Pan’s Flight
    3. Enchanted Tales with Belle
    4. Space Mountain
    5. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
    6. Splash Mountain

This is the suggested order to select fastpasses. Enchanted Tales with Belle is suggested if you have any younger children as a great selection. If your group is just adults, you might consider skipping that attraction.

The three mountains, space, big thunder, and splash, are great options to rope drop or to fastpass. Space Mountain typically has the longest wait of the three so I suggest picking that one. However, if you have a personal preference, all three are great options.

Which Fastpasses are good alternatives at Magic Kingdom?

While there are a few choices that are always great options, you might not always be able to select those. Whether there are height restrictions or the thrill rides aren’t your favorite attractions, there are other options.

    1. Pirates of the Caribbean
    2. Haunted Mansion
    3. Jungle Cruise
    4. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
    5. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
    6. Meet Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theater
    7. Meet Tinkerbell at Town Square Theater
    8. Tomorrowland Speedway
    9. Meet Princesses at Princess Fairytale Hall
    10. “it’s a small world”

Also, these are typically great day of selections. Meaning once you use your first three options, these are typically available to get later. Occasionally these rides get lines as well, especially on busy peak times of the year.

Which rides at Magic Kingdom never need Fastpass?

This is one of those “never say never” situations, but 99% of the time, you won’t need a fastpass for the following attractions:

    1. Meet Ariel at her Grotto
    2. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
    3. Mickey’s PhilharMagic
    4. The Barnstormer
    5. Dumbo the Flying Elephant
    6. Mad Tea Party
    7. Magic Carpets of Aladdin
    8. Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid

There are a few exceptions to when you might consider using a Fastpass for these rides:

    1. The week between Christmas and New Years. Everything is crowded and busy, even rides that are typically walk on attractions such as Under the Sea can get a line.
    2. Dumbo can occasionally have  wait, but the reason you rarely, if ever, need a fastpass is because it has you don’t have to wait in line. You enter the ride line and a cast member gives you a pager that will alert you when it is time to ride. Your kids can play in the play area next to the ride while you wait! Circus themed with play areas divide divided into ages and seating for the parents.

Where are the FastPass+ Kiosk Locations at Magic Kingdom?

While most prefer to use My Disney Experience, you do not need a smartphone to make fastpass reservations in the park. You can sometimes make selections at the kiosks quicker and simpler than on your phone too! At the end of the park day, the app usually times out reservations, but more than once we have gone to a kiosk and were able to get a last minute fastpass! You’ll find the kiosks in Magic Kingdom at:

    • Fantasyland, located outside of Mickey’s PhilharMagic
    • Storybook Circus, located in the tent to the right of Pete’s Silly Slideshow
    • Adventureland, located next to the entrance of Jungle Cruise
    • Between Adventureland and Frontierland, next to The Diamond Horseshoe
    • Tomorrowland, next to the entrance of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
    • Tomorrowland, to the left after you walk through the main entrance across Tomorrowland bridge

Tips for Magic Kingdom

Every Disney theme park operates slightly differently as far as finding the best “hacks” to make the most of your day. Here are some of the best tips and tricks for Magic Kingdom:

    • Magic Kingdom is a large park. When you are making your fastpass selections and times, make sure you review the map to pick out options near each other. You don’t want to run from Tomorrowland to Adventureland, to go back to Tomorrowland. You can do it, but it is creating a lot of extra unnecessary walking.
    • Any of the first choice options can get lines over an hour on busy days. If you do not have fastpasses for those, try to rope drop those attractions.
    • A lot of the lines that are typically longer like Space Mountain and Peter Pan’s Flight have interactive games while you wait. Including games you can play in the Disney Play app to make the time go by quicker.
    • Splash Mountain is recommended for fastpass during the warmer months, but if you are there over the winter the line will be short enough that you can walk on, if you choose to ride it at all. They don’t set off the extra water blasters down the larger drop when it is cold outside, so you won’t get as wet, if that is a concern.
    • If you are going for a special party, such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, you cannot get fastpasses during the party. Fastpasses tend to go quicker those days, especially after 4pm. Party goers can enter the park at 4pm, even though it doesn’t start until 7pm.
    • Magic Kingdom has quite a few thrill rides which means there are height restrictions. Be sure to review the height requirements before you making fastpass reservations for your family.
    • It should come as no surprise that Magic Kingdom is typically recommended for two days, if your trip allows. It has the most attractions and can take more than one day to see everything.
    • Happily Ever After fireworks are not part of the fastpass reservation system. There is a dessert party that is an option, but they got rid of the fireworks or parade viewing as part of the reservation system.
