Renting Disney Vacation Club Points
Have you ever wanted to stay in a Disney Deluxe Resort, but didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars per night? You are in luck! Renting Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points allows you to stay in a Deluxe Resort for a fraction of the cost. There are a bunch of reasons you should stay at a Disney Vacation Club resort, so let’s talk about what it is and how you can start renting DVC points to save hundreds, even if you aren’t a member.
What is the Disney Vacation Club?
The Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is basically Disney’s timeshare program. If you have ever visited a Disney theme park you have inevitably passed one of their booths with people trying to sell you the timeshare. Deciding if you should join is an entirely different subject, however, thanks to renting DVC points you don’t have to be a member to stay at a DVC property.
DVC is not limited to just Walt Disney World, but also Disneyland, Aulani, Vero Beach, and Hilton Head. This means you can also rent points for these properties as well.
What resorts are part of the Disney Vacation Club?
The Disney hotels that are included are:
- Animal Kingdom Lodge
- Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary Resort
- Beach Club Villas
- Boardwalk Villas
- Grand Floridian Villa
- Old Key West Resort
- Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
- Copper Creek at Wilderness Lodge Villas
- Boulder Ridge at Wilderness Lodge Villas
- Grand Californian
- Hilton Head Island
- Aulani Villas
- Riveria Resort (Opening December 16, 2019)
What does renting DVC points mean?
Renting points essentially means you are using a DVC members points to reserve a DVC room. Members are given a certain amount per year to use depending on their contract. Members might decide they don’t want to take a Disney trip that year or simply don’t need to use all their points. They then can decide to rent them out to others. This is great for anyone who isn’t a DVC member because it means we can stay at a deluxe resort for a fraction of the cost.
Who can rent DVC points?
Anyone can rent out points! You do not have to be a DVC member. In fact, if you are debating joining DVC, I highly suggest renting points out first to see if you would really benefit from it.
Does renting points through DVC really save you money?
ABSOLUTELY! There is rarely a case where you will find a better deal on rooms for a deluxe resort than renting points. The amount you save greatly depends on the length of time of your stay, the room you would like, and where to stay.

How do I rent Disney Vacation Club points?
David’s Vacation Club Rentals makes renting out DVC points extremely easy. First, check out their cost calculator to see the prices for the dates you want to go. You can easily see how much it costs for any room or resort you would like so you can compare right away!
After you have decided when and where you want to stay, you will complete the online reservation form. You’ll need to enter in your resort and room requests, as well as the dates. Please be aware you will be charged $112 at this time. It will be applied to the cost of your stay so it is not an additional charge. If your room requests cannot be met you will get the money back.
The first time I requested a room, my original requests could not be met, however, they did provide me with a list of alternatives to what is available. Because of the savings, DVC properties fill up very quickly between guests renting points and DVC members. If you know for certain you are going, book at the 11-month window to give yourself the best opportunity to secure your first option.
After they confirm that your dates, resort, and room preference are available they then reach out to DVC members and see if they can secure your reservation. Once it is confirmed you will get a confirmation number sent to you that can be added directly to your My Disney Experience. You will complete the online payment form and sign your reservation agreement.
The entire process is extremely simple but can be frustrating if you have your heart set on a particular resort.
What are the negatives about renting DVC points?
So you are saving hundreds of dollars, there has to be a catch right? There are a few cons to renting points, but in my opinion, none of them are dealbreakers. First off, if you have to stay at a certain resort, you’ll have to book closer to the 11-month mark to make sure you get your resort. A lot of people don’t like committing that far in advance or don’t know the exact details of their trip then either.
Another negative is you cannot cancel. Aside from travel insurance, which is an entirely different ballgame, you cannot cancel your trip. The good news is, if you book through David’s DVC Rentals, you are eligible for travel insurance. This is especially good during hurricane season.
Mousekeeping or housekeeping does not work the same as if you were staying in a normal Disney room. DVC rooms are supposed to be considered your home away from home so they are not treated like a regular hotel room. You get trash and towel service on day 4 and day 8 of your stay. They will empty the trash, bring fresh towels, restock bathroom toiletries, replenish coffee, and refill dishwashing materials if needed. If you are staying until day 8, they will also make your bed, clean the bathroom, and clean the kitchen area. You can ask for regular housekeeping more frequently at a cost. I do know many people call to get extra towels and have not had that as an extra charge.
One more negative is you have to be aware of the room layout you are booking. Most studios sleep 4, however, it is typically one bed and one sofa bed. This is fine for kids, but if you are booking for two couples, be aware one will not have a bed. Be sure to check out the layouts of each room so you know what to expect.
Are there any other perks with renting DVC points?
Since a DVC room is made to be like a timeshare, all rooms that are 1 bedroom or larger come with a full kitchen. You can order groceries to be delivered to your room so you can cook any of your meals. Disney restaurants can be very expensive so one of the most recommended ways to save money is to make your own food. It is much easier (and more appetizing) to be able to cook your own meals instead of relying on sandwiches.
If you don’t want to skip on Disney dining, you can still add a Disney Dining Plan to your reservation without purchasing tickets! This is a nice perk for those who want to buy their tickets elsewhere to save extra money, but still want the convenience of the dining plan.
You have access to free laundry facilities! Being able to wash and rewear clothes on vacation can help with luggage fees as well.
You also still get all of the perks of staying on site at Disney. You will still MagicBands, can use Magical Express, take part in Extra Magic Hours, reserve Fastpass+ 60 days in advance, and have access to all ADRs for your entire stay, not just the ones in the 180-day window.
