Why I Started a Blog
I have toyed around with the idea of starting a blog for years. My senior project at Drexel was essentially a blog about life in Philadelphia. I loved it. It gave me an excuse to go out and do things I would have talked myself out of or otherwise never considered. I completely understand how idiotic it sounds, but when I set a goal I like to see it through. No idea if that came from Drexel (that drill that into you there), my very stubborn Irish background, or if that is just how I was wired.
Why did I give it up? I graduated.
That isn’t to say I was only doing it for the grade, I wasn’t. I saw the potential resume builder and door opener a blog could be even then (fyi graduated in 2013). For those of you who have already flipped your tassel and entered the real world (my condolences by the way) you will understand how instantaneously and dramatically your life changes. You go from having a friend a block away that you see no less than four times a week, to sporadically texting them asking how their job hunt is going.
And the bigger thing, everyone’s favorite graduation gift – student loans. We were even handed a document walking across the stage at graduation that instructed us how to begin to pay our student loans. So sweet of them. At times I was working 4 jobs to make sure I could stay in the city AND with whatever free time I did have, still enjoy some activities. I simply had no free time to try and run a blog.
Flash forward to now, 5 years later (holy crap that went fast) and I finally started a blog.
While I have somewhat of an idea of where I would like to see this take me, I have no idea how realistic it is. As I learn through trial and error (and many courses and tutorials) I will share my experience and progress to hopefully make someone else’s journey a little bit easier.
