Please be warned that it is not a small walk to the top. You will climb over 400 stairs to reach this beautiful view. There are resting points are you walk up, but the stairs are uneven and the stairwell is narrow. 

Once you are done, I recommend grabbing a drink after. I definitely earned my Aperol Spritz after that walk!

Boboli Gardens is this huge green oasis, just a short walk from the city center. You can escape the hustle and bustle and chill in nature while still feeling the city’s history all around you.

Once you’re inside, it’s like you’ve stepped into a whole different world. There are these perfectly manicured lawns, colorful flowers, and tall trees that make you feel all zen. As you walk around, you’ll find cool sculptures and fountains that add an artistic touch to the place. There’s always something new to discover, like hidden grottos and cute ponds with pretty flowers.

Oh, and don’t miss the views! If you climb up to the higher spots, you’ll get amazing panoramas of Florence. You can see the iconic dome of the Florence Cathedral and more. It’s seriously breathtaking!

It’s one of those things that I truthfully didn’t think I cared about seeing, but did because, hey you’re in Florence you need to see The David. Honestly, I was pretty blown away by it. The photos don’t do it justice. It’s crazy to see how marble can become so smooth and beautiful.

Besides seeing the David, you can explore the halls and admire the religious art, like beautiful altarpieces and delicate Madonnas by famous Florentine artists. The brushwork and colors are mind-blowing.

The whole vibe of the gallery is awesome too. It’s cozy and intimate, so you can really connect with the art. Take your time to soak in all the details and appreciate the genius behind these timeless masterpieces.

6. Taste Tuscan Cuisine

Tuscan food is all about keeping it simple and letting the flavors shine. Think fresh tomatoes, top-notch olive oil, and amazing ingredients that make each dish pop. One classic you can’t miss is bistecca alla fiorentina, aka Florentine steak – a juicy T-bone steak grilled to perfection over an open flame. Just a sprinkle of salt, pepper, and some olive oil, and you’re in heaven!

Florentine steak is a huge dish so make sure you are up for splitting it with someone. Ours was about 3lbs, but it was absolutely incredible. 

Feeling like comfort food? Go for ribollita – a hearty veggie soup made with bread, cannellini beans, and loads of olive oil. It’s a soul-warming treat, especially on chilly days. And don’t forget to pair it with some Tuscan wine like Chianti or Brunello di Montalcino – the perfect combo!

And oh boy, the pasta! You gotta try pappardelle al cinghiale – wide ribbon pasta with wild boar ragù – so delish! Or how about ricotta and spinach-filled ravioli? Every bite is a celebration of Florence’s food traditions and the skill of its chefs.

Don’t forget about the gelato! If you want to make sure you are trying the best gelato a few tips. First, avoid anything with big mounds. It should be covered with a lid or lower. Second, be aware of the colors. For instance, banana shouldn’t be bright yellow and pistachio should be more a dull color vs the bright green. Also, don’t go anywhere that has an insane number of flavors. They can’t make them all fresh so if there are too many you know they aren’t made at that location.

Check out the statues all around the square. There’s a replica of Michelangelo’s famous David, standing tall and strong. And lots of other cool statues too, like the Neptune Fountain and the Loggia dei Lanzi – each with its own story.

Of course, the highlight is the Leaning Tower itself. Take a sec to admire its crazy lean and snap that Insta-worthy pic. Feeling daring? Climb to the top for epic views – just be ready for a little lean of your own!

But that’s not all! Check out the nearby Pisa Cathedral and Baptistery. The cathedral’s fancy facade and stunning artwork will leave you speechless. And the baptistery’s acoustics are legendary – you might catch some cool local musicians playing beautiful tunes.

Keep exploring, and you’ll find hidden gems all over Pisa. Take a chill stroll along the Arno River on the riverside promenade. Check out the cute cafes and artsy shops where you can find cool handmade souvenirs to remember your trip.

11. Try Chianti and do a Wine Tasting

You can choose to do this in Florence or take a day trip out to the Tuscany countryside. We opted to take a tour of some wineries so we could learn more about Chianti and what made it special. 

We took a tour that drove us from Florence and took us to two different wineries. The tours usually do not specify which wineries you will be going too, so if you have particular ones in mind you should consider getting a driver. 

The one we booked was extremely reasonable for the roundtrip ride and the tastings. The nice thing about it too was it was only half a day trip! We were able to learn about chianti and what makes it unique, and then still be back in time for activities in the evening! 

There are also trips that include pairing the wine with Tuscan cuisine. We opted to do not this because I had so many restaurants I wanted to try, but it’s a delicious option!

But it’s not just about the history lesson – the vibes here are just incredible! The peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect place to chill and reflect. Take a sec to admire the stunning frescoes and soak in the beauty of the place.

Heading up to Piazzale Michelangelo is like a mini-adventure in itself. You can feel the excitement building with every step! And trust me, the view at the top is epic!

From way up there, you get a mind-blowing panoramic view of Florence. The iconic landmarks – like the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio – all look tiny and cute from this high vantage point. And when the sun starts going down, the sky turns all kinds of beautiful colors, giving the city this soft, dreamy glow.

It’s such a magical moment that time seems to stop. You can totally soak in the beauty and history of Florence. And you won’t be alone – lots of other people gather here to witness this daily spectacle. Couples share sweet moments, families take cute pics, and artists paint their hearts out.

There are a lot of different types of cooking classes that are offered in Florence. Personally, nothing screamed Italian cooking as much as learning to make your own pasta. We had such a good time and plus you get to eat what you make! 

The one we chose included learning three different types of pasta and then they cooked each in it’s own sauce. You left with recipes for those, the pasta, and even the chocolate salami. I was also confused what that was, but I highly recommend ordering it if you love chocolate. 

Pasta making isn’t the only type of class you can take though! There are ones that combine pasta with dessert. You can learn how to make gelato. You can learn how to make delicious tiramisu. Another popular option is obviously pizza making. 

Nevertheless, whichever one you pick, I find cooking classes to be a great way to immerse yourself in the culture of a city! Helps you learn something you are able to bring back home with you after your vacation is over.

Step on board and leave all the hustle and bustle behind. The river takes you to a whole new side of the city – it’s super serene and scenic.
